Today, we planned to go on a hop-on, hop-off bus tour, where you could arrive at various famous places in Montreal. We had another easy morning, sleeping in to about eight am. Once we had dragged ourselves out of bed, we entered out into the heat. (It was unusually hot today, at twenty-nine degrees Celsius.) We caught the metro down to the rendezvous point for the bus, and passengers. Once we had redeemed tour two-day coupon, we hopped on the bus to go to Mont-Royal, a hill overlooking the city of Montreal. While we were driven to Mont-Royal, a person told us interesting facts, about Montreal and all it’s buildings. Soon enough, we arrived at the foothills of Montreal, where the highest religious building in Montreal stood. After seeing this old, and very large building, we took the next bus to a park that lies on top of Mont-Royal, designed by the same architect that designed central park! We had lunch here, and looked at the amazing lookout, that overlooked Montreal. (I know, a lot of ‘look-words!’) After this we caught another bus that went to the ‘underground city of Montreal,’ a series of tunnels and underground rooms with shops and businesses, due to Montreal’s extreme cold. We walked in the underground for a bit, and then went to an English speaking, university in Montreal; once we had done this we caught the Metro, back to our apartment.
September 10th
Today, we were aiming to go sightseeing in old Montreal, and see some of its most famous attractions, like it’s Olympic Park. We had a bit of a laidback morning, getting outside at ten o’clock am. We walked along the streets of our apartment to Old Montreal, where we looked at the French, European style, houses. It was amazing to see this in a modern American city. (Montreal is the oldest city outside Europe, and is also the second biggest French speaking city, after Paris!) Old Montreal, was a good architectural experience, getting to see all the cobblestone streets, and all the different styles of buildings, all made of stone, and plenty of old style European décor, carved into the houses, some dating back to the sixteen hundreds! Then we ventured over to Basilisque Notre Dame. (One of the oldest buildings in all of Montreal!) The amazing architecture in the building was spectacular! Soaring arches, and beautiful painted walls were some of the breathtaking features that you could perceive. After this, we caught the metro to the outskirts of the city of Montreal, where the Olympic Park, and the famous stadium with the largest diagonal structure, in the world! We went to the Bio-Dome, where the people there can recreate various global climates, to fit the needs of various trees and animals, located inside the dome, which makes it a very popular attraction. Once we had gotten out tickets, we were allowed inside, and were led through three different four different climates, an Amazon rainforest climate, a North American Climate, a Northern North American Climate (If that makes sense!), and a sub Antarctic climate! There was a lot of Jacket putting on and taking off, as we walked through all the different climates available. (Except for the Sub Antarctic Climate, because of the drastic temperature change.) We could see various wildlife and trees from all those different climates. My favourite was the Sub Antarctic Climate, where you could see loads of different species of penguins, even Emperor Penguins. (Emperor Penguins are rarely in captivity, because of their immense difficulty to keep comfortable.) After this we decided to go back to our apartment, after a long walking day. We caught the metro back to our apartment, after all this.
