Chatham, NJ to Washington, DC - 23 September 2013

Today we farewelled our American cousins, Cruz and Cole, as well as Murray and Rachel. We had a great time with them over two weekends, with Kaylene, Hamilton & Abbey having had an extra four days at the start of their trip in late August. We headed east and then south through New Jersey, a quick sprint across the top of Delaware seeing the skyline of Wilmington, into Maryland, zipping through Baltimore and into Virginia via the 'Beltway'. After checking in at our hotel in McLean, Virginia, we drove to Arlington Cemetery.

Arlington is an extraordinary place with row after row of tombstones as well as the graves of JFK, RFK,  Joseph Kennedy Jr, and Edward Kennedy. We were fortunate enough to be at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the time of the changing of the guard which was a display of military precision.

We then dropped our car back at Reagan National Airport which is right on the Potomac River, and caught the Washington Metro back to West Falls Church metro station and the 6 of us squeezed into a cab for the short ride back to the hotel, with Elliott and Hamilton riding up front with the driver!
